Event photography, particularly wedding photography, has become an increasingly difficult field to navigate since the advent and popularity of digital cameras and smartphones. With the plummeting costs of entering the field and the countless number of eager individuals starting to use a camera and getting some good initial feedback from friends, a vast crop of inexperienced and potentially problematic photographers has cropped up in the industry. Anyone with some friends that like their Instagram shots can buy a cheap to moderate level DSLR and think they are ready to start shooting weddings.
Unfortunately, this flood of fresh, inexperienced, and often unskilled photographers has resulted in a significant portion of jobs being taken away from high quality professionals who are capable of doing the job right. With fewer jobs to go around in an increasingly crowded industry, skilled photographers have been forced to charge more and find inventive ways to bait people in with a low initial cost but attempt to recover a living wage from whatever jobs they are able to land. This has resulted in full-time photographers often having to raise their prices to more than the services are really worth, simply due to the market conditions.
As an experienced professional with over 15 years of experience growing up in the A/V and event fields, my goal is to ensure that people have access to high quality professional work at a reasonable price that is fair to both consumer and artist. I work full-time as a software developer so that I do not have to use photography jobs to cover my expenses between jobs. Instead, I can focus on providing excellent service at a great, fair price for the work performed. And since I don’t have to put food on the table through photography, it means more money can go into getting the best equipment available to get the most out of my years of experience.
Simply put, my philosophy is to keep photography fair for the consumer by providing high quality, professional photography at the reasonable price that the service is worth. It is to remove the difficult to understand fee schedules that end up making you pay more than you wanted. It is delivering to the customer what they expect in a professional manner and helping to make sure the customer can have a great event without getting in the way.
